Recognizing and Embracing Change - Cont'd

So, what does an evolving disciple look like? Well, let’s look at an example of Jesus’ disciples. As the disciples grew and continued in ministry, they began to reproduce themselves and madedisciples to carry on the work and grow the Church. The Apostle Paul admonished the churches at Phillipi to follow in his example (Phil. 4:9) and we are to do the same with those that we mentor. You’re not being groomed, taught, strengthened for you alone to enjoy, pass along what you learn and have experienced to others. Now let’s be clear, I’m not stating that you are to look for an adjutant for yourself! Don’t be confused, adjutants don’t have adjutants. What I am saying is that disciples, as we evolve and gain a greater understanding of our ministry must mentor others all the while embracing our new growth in discipleship. Give somebody else a chance!

I remember when I first started and there were others around me to observe and learn from. I would never move because there was always another individual who moved and covered, so I felt so long as he was there, I wasn’t needed. Eventually, this individually began to push me into that place of ministry so that I could function and learn by doing. He made room for me! He had evolved to a higher plane of discipleship and was pulling me up to a higher plane as well. I’ve said all of this and repeated myself to say: adjutants…disciples, do not short change
yourself, your ministry or those who will be affected by the work the Lord has begun in you. But embrace change, embrace your new roles and responsibilities and challenges, embrace and seek movement with your leader. When it’s time to evolve in your discipleship, recognize the shift and move with The Spirit, it’s a part of the process that The Lord has begun in you.
